Students at Riverside Academy in Lilongwe, Malawi, are now benefiting from digital learning resources thanks to a donation of IT equipment from our team through Turing Trust.
Last September, our IT team donated laptops and desktop monitors to Turing Trust, a charity that refurbishes old equipment, installs educational software and redistributes it to communities that need it most.
We're pleased to share that some of this equipment is now being used at Riverside Academy, where 25 desktop computers have been installed. The computers are helping to provide access to digital learning resources for the school's 257 students – 112 boys and 145 girls – and are also benefiting the wider local community.
Paul Kelly, IT Manager, said:
"As part of our responsible IT lifecycle, we're proud to support Turing Trust by giving our outgoing hardware a new purpose. It's great to know this equipment is creating a real impact, helping improve access to education while supporting sustainability. Seeing it open up opportunities for students and communities around the world is incredibly rewarding."
Gwenyth Blair, CSR Lead, said:
"Supporting Turing Trust through the donation of our outgoing hardware allows us to create lasting social value beyond our projects. By giving this equipment a second life, we're helping expand access to education, promote sustainability and create opportunities for students and communities around the world."
As a result of our contribution, 1,548 students will have the opportunity to develop vital digital skills that can support their long-term success. We've also helped offset 24 tonnes of CO₂ emissions – roughly equivalent to planting 60 trees – and saved enough energy to power six UK homes for a year. In addition, several Turing Trust trainees have gained valuable hands-on experience in IT repair.
